A full running program for students of Henley Middle School
Track & Field runs from March through May. If you love racing, running, jumping, or just throwing things — this is the activity for you. Henley is a fierce competitor in our region.
Training for the cross country season kicks off at the beginning of the school year and is a great way for new runners to build up their endurance quickly. It does not matter if you've never run before — a majority of our new members are beginners!
After a pilot program last year, we are formally offering an indoor track experience this year and it's off to a great start with over 30 runners participating in our first meet. It's the same excitement of outdoor track & field, but during the winter months.
Off-season practice sessions are a great way for our runners to ramp up their training in advance of the official season start. Practices are usually held in the mornings at either Crozet Park or WAHS.
Head coach Mike McCormick is a competitive runner and triathlete in the 70-74 age group. He is thankful for the positive difference that running has made in his life and grateful to have found such a rewarding way to give back to the community.
Assistant coach Eliese Zawacki is a science teacher at Henley and a former shot putter and discus thrower. Her specialized training sessions have resulted in a steady stream of medals in these events for Henley.
The Henley running program is a joint collaboration between Coach Mike McCormick, the Albemarle County Public School System, and Albemarle Parks & Recreation.
